Water Main Break Disrupts Traffic and Services Near A1A and Oklahoma Street in Hollywood

Residents and tourists face challenges as repairs and boil water advisory are underway

A significant water main break occurred near the intersection of A1A and Oklahoma Street in Hollywood, leading to flooding and the closure of two southbound lanes.

The incident, which took place on a Thursday night, resulted in water service disruptions for nine residential properties in the vicinity.

Cell phone footage captured water gushing from the ground, resembling a geyser.

One local resident recounted, "I came outside, I don’t remember what time but there was, like, a geyser in the middle of the road and shortly after that, we lost the water and it’s been off ever since."

Tourists staying nearby also faced inconveniences, as access to hotel parking lots was restricted.

One visitor expressed concern, stating, "It is a very big inconvenience, yes. We can’t have access to the parking lot so I don’t know what’s gonna happen tonight."

Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy indicated that the break was due to a corroded valve installed decades ago with non-stainless steel bolts.

While initial repairs have been completed, further damage to the water system necessitates additional work.

A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for the affected properties.

Residents are advised to boil water for at least one minute before consumption, including for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth.

As of Friday night, water service has been restored, but traffic restrictions remain in place as crews prepare for more extensive repairs scheduled to begin on Monday.

Motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
