Unexpected Heart Surgery Leads to Unforgettable Wedding Ceremony |
Chris Hamilton and Jenny Lamontagne's wedding plans took an unforeseen turn when Chris suffered a severe heart attack just days before their scheduled cruise wedding.
The couple, along with nearly 30 loved ones from Maine, had traveled to Florida for the occasion.
Instead of setting sail, Chris underwent emergency heart surgery at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.
Determined to celebrate their love, the hospital's dedicated staff orchestrated a heartfelt ceremony right in the cardiac intensive care unit.
From music and flowers to an officiant and cake, the team ensured every detail was covered.
Social worker Debbe Hopkins played a pivotal role in facilitating the union, providing the necessary information to formalize their marriage.
Reflecting on the experience, Jenny expressed profound gratitude, stating, "If we were anywhere else, we wouldn’t be where we are right now."
Dr. Michael Cortelli, Chief of the Memorial Cardiac and Vascular Institute, who performed Chris's bypass surgery, emphasized the team's commitment to patient care.
He remarked, "It’s what we do every day, and we have an incredible team. We are caregivers and we felt that he missed an important day in his life and the team wanted to make it happen."
Chris is recovering well and is expected to return home to Maine in the coming days.
This heartwarming event marks the third wedding celebrated at Memorial Healthcare System this year, showcasing the staff's unwavering dedication to their patients and their families. |
